Transmission Flush or Change: What’s the Difference?

Your vehicle’s transmission system essentially runs on fluid. This fluid keeps everything operating smoothly without scraping and also keeps the system from overheating. Much like with an oil change, it’s important to change this fluid to clear out any impurities or dirt.

A transmission flush will replace all the fluid in your system. The old fluid is pumped out entirely and replaced with brand-new fluid.

A transmission change doesn’t remove all the fluid; rather, the existing fluid is drained and the system is refilled. This means instead of pushing all the old fluid out of the system, some will still remain.

Which One Does Your Vehicle Need?

Transmission Flush vs Change

The goal of a transmission flush is to remove any buildup within the system that may be affecting your vehicle’s performance while replacing the fluid to give the system a refresh. With a transmission change, the fluid is still refreshed, and perhaps your system hasn’t been experiencing signs of a blockage or buildup.

Have a chat with our service technicians and let them know if you’ve been experiencing any change in performance. You can also consult your vehicle’s maintenance schedule to see what the manufacturer recommends based on your mileage.

Typically, a transmission change comes first, and a transmission flush follows at a higher mileage.
